UV tanning: what you should know.

We want every guest to make an informed choice. This summary is based on current Health Canada and Ontario guidance.

  1. UV exposure carries real risks

Health Canada advises that UV radiation from tanning equipment, like the sun, can cause skin damage, premature skin aging, eye damage and skin cancer, including melanoma.

  2. A base tan isn't sun protection

A tan does not replace sunscreen or prevent sunburn. Continue to protect your skin outdoors.

  3. Not a vitamin D treatment

Health Canada does not recommend tanning equipment as a way to get vitamin D. Speak with a health professional about vitamin D.

  4. Under 18? UV tanning isn't permitted

Ontario's Skin Cancer Prevention Act prohibits anyone under 18 from using UV tanning services. Anyone who appears under 25 must show government-issued photo ID.

  5. Always wear protective eyewear

Approved eyewear is required during every UV session.

  6. Talk to a professional first

If you have a history of skin cancer, burn easily, take photosensitizing medication, or have a medical condition, consult your doctor before tanning.

  7. Prefer no UV? Try sunless

Spray tanning gives colour without UV exposure — though it doesn't protect you from the sun.
